This is round two with an earlier incarnation of Dai Coleacanth, which takes me back into my new Stoke On Trent friend's unique world.

Voices are looped, speeds toyed with for A Quick Score like Dry Bingo, they are treated so much they become noise – this happens across the album. Blended with synth noises and cut up beyond any coherence we are presented with a dizzying array of sound. Electronic glitches cut in as if coming from all directions to break up any recognisable path to the sound, this is rapid ugly work that leaves me questioning where each sound came from. Towards the end it becomes a matrix like hyper-rush with warped dialogue talking about Slime in the parts that I could make out.

‘A Quick Trip to the Graveyard' introduces Ghoul Pie, bits of voice and shots of radio broadcast play out, haunted voices wail through the rapid time shifts the work creates through early radio samples. Manic dialogues become chants as they are looped to nauseous effect. The over command of the voices is savage, this is very challenging listening. Just as I type this it becomes a messed up song through the rhythm of the loops and cut in single words that jump into the loops. The Ghouls are out today for sure as a mass of voices becomes a conversation without manners, one voice follows the other each talking about a different subject, unique to each voice. Farting electronics, glitches, trumpets, random percussive scrapes and the odd bit of dialogue bring the track to an end.

Haunted (and very effective) Power Electronics with a singular dialogue and blistering electronics gives us Wet and Queasy. The use of one voice and flow of electronics stands in contrast to the previous two tracks as the voice echoes and resonates across the track. Wall noise rumbles in the background, rolling into the foreground to smother the voice periodically. Towards the end of the track the work sounds like it is drowning itself as it gargles away.

Coleacanth hits the warped button on the albums second long track Wooden leg as voices shout over each other, words become noises here as the loops are shorter and smaller as they overlap each other. It sounds like Sleaford Mods with dementia as the conversation continues to deeper depths of absurdity. Half way into the track, some of the voices get slowed down so they drag across the soundscape as speedy voices cough out random words. The conversation speeds up to become more aggressive and insulting.

Just the title of the final track Packet Custard is hilarious, the title takes be back to the 1970s, the noise is words in nauseous loops and radio shifting with glitches. The radio glitching shakes you violently from past to present repeatedly. The rude electronic noises and sharp voices are like a welcome relief rom this. The track melts and form breaks at the end, slowly but surely.

This is the second Dai Coelacanth album that I have reviewed today. This is even more further out there (very, very experimental) than the later release Dead End Bingo Dry as a Bone.  I feel my definitions of what noise is have been stretched out tenfold by this outpouring of insane art that has been spewed inside my head. Hot Slime = Hot Shit, thanks for such a challenging Saturday. Buy the Cdr from the link above, you know you want to.
