1.      Flesh Fluidity.

2.      Hog Tied.

3.      The Cellar.

4.      Lustpain.

1.      Somno Petite.

I was impressed by the most recent Aussaat Maskhead Release Strange Attractions, so I wanted to give this previous album from 2025 a try.

Crackling, wailing, laughter and voices are looped until a big synthesiser drone comes in, guttural distortion pulsates over this, eliminating ll previous sounds eventually. Com like distortion starts to appear with this to make Flesh Fluidity.  Heavy, distorted drones start to churn and rhythmically pulsate. Tuner noise plays out over this. I like the subtle shifts that Flesh Fluidity demonstrates. The electronics begin to throb violently and the shrill noise goes off too with chants and shouting.

Hog Tied starts as dense, dirty, deep wall noise, different scraping feedback noises cut though this as if to make the wall noise spit roasted. The scraping intensifies and becomes metallic when it passes a certain level. Synth drones then cut through everything as if chopping massive gaps into the fluidity of the noise. This retunes the wall noise and feedback as if to alter the balance. All noises are then smothered to become clicking and bass muffled rumbling, only to return at full speed.

The Cellar, sounds like a Cellar, metal things, rattle and echo to create a sonic space that feels empty, haunted and damp. Things are rattled and hit to create suspension and anxiety.  Tension increases the more metal gets hit, this moves between sparse to busy repeatedly. This is the Harsh Noise equivalent of an extended drum solo.  To me, it lacks the strength tracks on the album, things intensify rapidly on Lustpain  which immediately kicks in. Choppy distortions play each other off, scraping, roaring and singing at each other. This uses the industrial, metallic feel of previous tracks compressed into a loose, textured wall and is the longest track on the first disc. The speed of movement of the wall increases as the track nears its end, then suddenly cuts out.

The mini CD that comes with Painful Persuation is one track called Somno Petite, This begins as jagged, sharp noise and a bass roar that splatters underneath.  It flattens out to a lower splatter, with a array of noises bubbling inside it. All elements are treated via being slowed down, muted for short periods, faltered so they become choppier and choked so they are unrecognisable.   This is a subtle, violent use of sound that progresses excellently.

Good album, again, a complex use of sound that works well Painful Persuation shows Maskhead isn't afraid to experiment.

Choppy Noodles 2024.
