8.      The last sacred ritual.

9.      Weight of the water.

I went to see Weird Fields last night in Nottingham because they were the opening act at Rammel Club. I was able to sit and watch the sound check, which was as beautiful as the gig and I found out this tape had been released later in the night. I had only ever seen one gig prior to this, but I believe there have been a few over the last year. There are frequent jam sessions between the members, that have led to the creation and release of this album on Mossy Tapes.

The music makes the mind drift, live there were guitars, violin and keyboards playing at the same time. Live they sounded like a heavily abstracted early Velvet Underground with German influences flowing through pushing slightly towards Nico's Marble Index and off into their own world altogether. However, the recorded sounds are completely different to  the live work. Sounds paint pictures in my mind, the description by the label gives me pointers where to go. I found myself drifting away with the music last night and again now. Melodies hang in the air and overlap each other whilst drones chatter between themselves as if  caught in conversation. This captures the beauty of an early morning Nottingham before the day gets busy when the people and cars wake up. In contrast to this, some songs have an evening time feel to them through a drop in keyboard tone and track pace. Epic musical journeys are effortlessly put into small tracks.

This project is special, the album is beautiful and may there be many more releases. Gorgeous work.

Zee Gee 2026.
